Involvement of Students in the Strategic Planning for Societies

To call a planning meeting for the strategic direction of Societies. Societies are a major part of the University experience and involve 3,500 Brookes' students. The Union has a responsibility to support and develop Societies. As a Students' Union we have the responsibility to take the views of students into account. Since my time in office, I have given much attention to Societies and provided more facilities for Societies, but I would like to see what extra support the Union should give to Societies.

I wish to have a formal meeting where the current policies concerning Societies are addressed, current facilities open to Societies are spoken about and where students are allowed to have the opportunity to give feedback about their experiences and what they would benefit from seeing.

The meeting will take place during week 11, semester 1 of the 2013/2014 academic year allowing enough time to implement change. The meeting will be open to all Society members with committee members nominated as designated voice of their Society. Elected officers are allowed to be present with the VP: Student Experience who has the political lead for Societies' chairing. The Deputy Chief Executive of the Union will be present with only an advisory role, meaning he will not have speaking rights unless called upon by those students present. This is because he has expertise in finance, business and past knowledge of how different Society models have worked. This will allow Society members to make more informed and knowledgeable decisions which will benefit their Society's membership.

Each Society will be allowed to add items to the agenda with equal time given for each added item, allowing for a structured and effective meeting.
