Advice Assistant

Hours

 8 hours per week during term time (potential for more dependent on demands of service)

Salary

£8.72 (+ holiday pay)

Location

Currently this role will be online/remote but may involve occasional work at the Brookes Union Office, Headington Campus

Job Purpose

The Advice Assistant will be an enthusiastic member of the Advice Team, providing support during busy periods by answering queries, booking appointments and offering referrals where necessary. During less busy periods, they will be providing administrative support to the team by ensuring that our AdvicePro records are up to date.

About You

We are looking for someone with high levels of initiative and self-motivation, who has a strong understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding or a willingness to learn. The ideal candidate will have some experience of using emails and customer relationship management systems, though training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the advice team, responding to emails, booking appointments, and recording notes on our customer relationship management system (AdvicePro).  
  • Refer students to our student advisers or other services where appropriate.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Has an understanding of the importance of confidentiality
  • IT competent with a good understanding of Google Suite (gmail)
  • Ability to adapt communication style to different mediums
  • Ability to actively listen and show empathy to others
  • Is eager to engage students and help them understand what support is available
  • Is enthusiastic and self-motivated to deliver consistently

Desirable:

  • Experience of working effectively both as part of a team and independently
  • Some experience of using a customer management system
  • Is willing and able to bring new ideas to help maintain an effective service
