Wow, how has it been over a month already?! My first month in office has flown by and we are steam rolling into August and September and the long awaited start of semester 1. It has been a whirlwind of learning, questions and zoom calls over the last few weeks and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Being new to the role, there was lots of learning and training to be done including; equality and diversity, anti semitism, comms and democracy to name a few!
Alongside the training I have been on zoom calls and meetings being introduced to lots of people within the university. These meetings have been really helpful in helping me find my feet within the role and communicate with key university staff my main manifesto points that I would like to achieve this year. Lots has changed since I first wrote my manifesto way back in March so it has taken some adjustments to make it relevant in today's world but this has all been part of the learning process.
I’ve been working with the societies team to help put together the first ever Brookes Union online Freshers’ Fair. Our societies are amazing and an integral part of life at Brookes so it’s really important that we showcase them as much as possible.
Over the past week I have been in Oxford filming various things for the Union. It was so fun to get together as an officer team (socially distanced of course) and see people in actual 3D and not over zoom! Keep your eyes peeled for some cheesy videos from the officer team on the Brookes Union social media!
All in all it has been a very fun filled first month and I can’t wait to welcome everyone to and back to campus in september and hopefully try to meet you even if it is virtually!
I’m always happy to chat, so feel free to drop me a message on Facebook.
